SingleJunior Thomas Haug and freshman Avery Ticer were eliminated in the semifinals of the Big Ten Singles Championships in East Lansing, Mich., on Monday morning. Haug was the tournament's number one seed.
Both players won the first set in their matches, but dropped the next two. Haug lost to Jamal Parker, an unseeded player from Illinois, 7-6, 2-6, 2-6. Ticer was ousted by No. 6 seed Michael Calkins of Illinois, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
The tournament wraps up a successful fall schedule for the Golden Gopher tennis team. Junior Harsh Mankad will undoubtedly rise in the national rankings from No. 22 in the preseason. Mankad reached the finals of the Region IV Championships and won the Intercollegiate Indoor Championships last Sunday. Haug will also rise in the polls from his preseason No. 51 ranking. He reached the semifinals of the Region IV Championship as well as the Big Ten Singles Championships.
Rankings will be released in December.
