Senior Michael Sicora’s run at the 2011 Big Ten Men’s Indoor Tennis Championships, which is being contested at the University of Iowa, came to an end today.
Sicora fell 6-4, 6-0 to No. 7 seed Stephen Hoh of Illinois in the third round of the 64-play tournament.
Sicora began the event with a 6-1, 6-4 win against Iowa’s Joey White and advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-3, 7-6 win against tenth-seeded Barrett Franks of Michigan.
Freshmen Eric Frueh, Leandro Toledo, Mathieu Froment and sophomore Juan Pablo Ramirez also participated in the tournament. Froment and Ramirez won their first-round matches before falling in the second round. Frueh and Toledo, who was seeded fifth, both lost in the first round.
Minnesota returns to action this weekend when they welcome competitors from Denver, Nebraska and Notre Dame to Baseline Tennis Center for the Gopher Invitational.
