Avery Ticer Named ITA National Summer Circuit Player of the Year

TennUniversity of Minnesota men's tennis player Avery Ticer (Amarillo, Texas/Tascosa HS) has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Summer Circuit Player of the Year for the second consecutive summer.

Ticer went 18-0 while winning two singles titles on the ITA Midwest Circuit and the title at last week's ITA National Summer Championships in Bloomington, Ind. Ticer will be a senior for the Golden Gophers in 2004-05. He has reached five finals over the past two years on the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit.

With his ITA National Summer Championships title, Ticer earned a wild card into the first national tournaments of the 2004-05 collegiate tennis season - the Icy Hot/ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in October.

The ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit, presented by the United States Tennis Association, was played at 20 regional sites throughout the country in July. More than 17,000 men and women have competed in circuit events since it began in 1993 and a record 2,067 participants competed in this year's circuit. The ITA National Summer Championships are the pinnacle of the circuit and were hosted by Indiana University Aug. 10-13.
