SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2014 All-Academic Teams Wednesday afternoon. The University of Minnesota men’s tennis team was a recipient of the ITA All-Academic Team award, while Mathieu Froment and Jeremy Lynn were honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). ITA Scholar-Athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year.
Lynn, undecided on a major, is studying business, while Froment is double majoring in finance and risk management insurance and accounting.
Froment is an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the third-straight year. He was also received a top-five award at the 2014 Golden Goldys for earning one of the top five grade point averages among University of Minnesota student-athletes in 2013-14. Additionally, he garnered Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades.
As a team, the Gophers earned the ITA All-Academic Team award for the fourth consecutive year and took home the Minnesota Men’s Athletics Team Academic Award at this year’s Golden Goldys.
Gophers Begin Spring Season at Baseline
The University of Minnesota men’s tennis team will begin their spring season Friday as they host South Dakota State at 11 a.m. and Marquette at 5 p.m. at Baseline Tennis Center.
Gophers Ranked In Singles and Doubles
Felix Corwin and Matic Spec have been ranked No. 48 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Men's National Doubles Rankings while Spec is ranked No. 42 in the singles rankings.
