Senior Rok Bonin will begin his journey in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championship tomorrow afternoon in Urbana, Ill. at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Center. The tournament runs Wednesday through Sunday.
Bonin drew Auburn’s Andreas Mies for the first round match-up. The two will face off at 2:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the second round and face the victor of Mikelis Libietis (1) of Tennessee and Mitchell Frank of Virginia.
Bonin has been the Gophers' top player with a 25-12 overall record, including a 17-7 dual match mark and a 9-2 record in the Big Ten. After helping the Gophers finish second in the Big Ten regular season standings, he received a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection. Bonin is ranked 53rd in the latest ITA release.
Mies holds an 18-9 overall record during the season and was ranked at No. 19 in the latest ITA singles poll. Playing at the first position, he went 13-7 in dual matches this spring and also owns six wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
