MEN'S TENNIS TEAM LOSES TO WASHINGTON 4-1 AT NCAAS

The No. 38-ranked University of Minnesota men's tennis team lost to No. 24-ranked Washington 4-1 at the McWhorter Courts in the first round of the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga.

Minnesota took two of the three doubles matches, but failed to score any points in singles play to take the victory and advance in the NCAA Tournament. Sophomore Tyson Parry and senior Adam Selkirk defeated Nicholas Quatrochi and Mark Woolley 8-3 at the No. 2 doubles position. At the No. 3 doubles spot, senior Martin Kristoffersen and freshman Thomas Haug defeated Jeremy Berman 8-3.

Washington's Robert Kendrick defeated senior Tom Chicoine 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles position. Parry also dropped his match at the No. 2 singles position 6- 4, 6-4 to Eric Drew. Michalowski lost to Mark Woolley 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 6 singles spot. The clinching match for Washington was a 6-1, 1-6, 4-6 victory for Marius Lunde over Adam Selkirk.
