Fourth-ranked Harsh Mankad rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over No. 39 Matt Klinger to clinch a 4-2 win over Arizona State. The Golden Gophers advance to the second round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship and will face No. 8 Pepperdine Sunday afternoon in Malibu, Calif.

Arizona State began the match and claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and 3 doubles. The duo of Harsh Mankad and Thomas Haug prevailed at No. 1 with an 8-5 upset of No. 16 Mitchell Bowen and Matt Klinger.

Minnesota rallied with four victories in singles. No. 79 Aleksey Zharinov started the roll with an easy 6-0, 6-3 win over Clinton Lechter at No. 3 singles. Manuel Lievano followed with a straight-set win at No. 4 over Mirza Duranvic, 7-5, 6-1. No. 98 Thomas Haug also prevailed at No. 2 singles with a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win over Pim Van Mele.

Minnesota will face Pepperdine for the right to advance to the Round of 16 which begins on May 18 in College Station, Texas. Earlier this season, the Waves defeated the Golden Gophers 7-0 in Malibu, Calif.
