MEN'S TENNIS TOPS INDIANA 4-0 TO ADVANCE AT THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

MThe 35th-ranked University of Minnesota men's tennis team defeated Indiana 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Championships at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., this afternoon.

Minnesota, the No. 4 seed, won three singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to close out the win over the fifth-seeded Hoosiers. Minnesota will meet No. 1 seed Illinois in the semifinals tomorrow afternoon. The Fighting Illini are also ranked second in the nation as a team. Purdue will play Northwestern in the other bracket. The championship match will be held Sunday at 11 a.m.

No. 1 singles player senior Tom Chicoine defeated Ian Arons 6-2, 6-4. Senior Adam Selkirk also won his singles match at the No. 4 position, 6-4, 6-3 over Milan Rakvica. The other victory in singles play was by junior Martin Michalowski, who defeated Rahman Smiley 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 6 singles position.

The doubles team of Chicoine and Michalowski defeated Gabe Montilla and Smiley 8-6 at No. 1. Also winning in doubles action was sophomore Tyson Parry and Selkirk, a 8-5 victory over George McGill and Rakvica.
