Minnesota Men's Tennis Defeats Penn State 4-0 in Big Ten Quarterfinals

StThe University of Minnesota Men's Tennis Team advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Championship with a 4-0 win vs. Penn State on Friday afternoon. The Golden Gophers (19-4, 8-2) will meet Ohio State in the semifinals tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Evanston, Ill.

Minnesota won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles. Thomas Haug and Avery Ticer defeated Roddy Cantey and Clint Keithley, 8-2, at No. 1. Chris Wettengel and Eric Robertson defeated Nate Emge and Mark Barry at No. 3 by a score of 8-4.

In singles, Haug prevailed at No. 2 with a 6-4, 7-6 victory against Mark Barry. Ticer won at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Clint Keithley. Clay Estes rounded out the singles competition with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 over Todd Stecko.

The third-seeded Golden Gophers will meet second-seeded Ohio State in the semifinals of the Big Ten Championship tomorrow. The Buckeyes defeated Minnesota last week in Columbus by the score of 4-3.
