seasoThe University of Northwestern men's tennis team, ranked 52nd in the nation, upset No. 44 Minnesota 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in Evanston, Ill. With the win, Northwestern improves to 10-7 on the season and 4-3 in the Big Ten. Minnesota is now 10-9 and 5-3 in the conference.
Northwestern took the early lead, winning the doubles point as the Wildcats took two of three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Minnesota's Harsh Mankad and Jorge Duenas captured the lone Golden Gopher victory with an 8-5 win.
The Wildcats took home victories in four of the six singles matches. Duenas earned a victory for the Maroon and Gold with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jackie Jenkins. Minnesota's Jon Svensson earned his eighth victory in his last nine matches with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Joost Hol.
The Golden Gophers will travel to Champagne, Ill., tomorrow for an afternoon match with 10th-ranked Illinois.
