The University of Minnesota men's tennis team lost its second Big Ten match of the season to Purdue University 4-3 in West Lafayette, Ind., this afternoon. Minnesota is now 8-9 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten. The Golden Gophers claimed two singles matches and two of the three doubles matches during the meet.
Senior Tom Chicoine defeated Derek Myers at the No. 1 singles position, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 to start the match. Freshman Thomas Haug also won his match at the No. 5 singles position with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory in three sets over Cade Lute.
The doubles team of Adam Selkirk and Tyson Parry defeated Jamie Gordon and Dan Swam at the No. 2 doubles with a 9-8 score. The doubles team of Haug and freshman Ryan Davies also won its doubles match with an 8-3 victory over Jason Marshall and Cade Lute at the No. 3 doubles position.
The Golden Gophers return home next weekend to face Wisconsin Friday night at the Northwest Athletic Club at 98th Street in Bloomington at 6 p.m. Minnesota also hosts Iowa Saturday night at 6 p.m.
