StatSophomore Avery Ticer was named Big Ten Tennis Player of the Week after a perfect weekend against Michigan and Michigan State.

In a 7-0 win vs. Michigan last Friday, Ticer defeated Vinny Gossain at No. 5 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. He and teammate Thomas Haug ousted Rubin and Rolf of Michigan at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Against Michigan State, he moved up to No. 4 and defeated Goran Topalo, 7-5, 6-3. He teamed with Eric Robertson to post a 9-8 (7) win at No. 2 doubles over Hourani and McGuire. Ticer, a native of Tascosa, Texas, improved to 4-1 in singles play in the league.

The Golden Gophers (13-3, 4-1) moved up one spot to No. 12 in the latest ITA national rankings. Minnesota will travel to Northwestern on Saturday and Wisconsin on Sunday for a pair of Big Ten matches.
