mThe University of Minnesota men's tennis team defeated Purdue 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Baseline Tennis Center, improving their record to 7-7 (3-1) on the year. The Golden Gophers won five singles matches in the win.

Minnesota opened with a 1-2 mark in doubles to give the Boilermakers an early 1-0 lead. The Golden Gophers' No. 3 duo of Chris Wettengel and Andres Osorio picked up UM's only win in doubles play, downing Rose/Warner, 8-6.

The Maroon and Gold shifted the dual's momentum in singles play, winning five of six matches. Chris Wettengel prevailed over Paul Rose at No. 1 6-3, 7-6. Also winning in straight sets was Avery Ticer at No. 3. Ticer defeated Sounak Chatterjee 6-2, 7-5. Aleksey Zharinov edged by Troy Havens 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 at No.2. At No. 4, Andres Osorio dropped the first set, but roared back to beat David Robinson 4-6, 6-1, 7-6. Brian Lipinski finished things off in dramatic fashion, beating Eric Hodgman 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 at No. 6. Minnesota's lone loss was at the No. 5 spot where Colin Foster beat Clay Estes 5-7, 6-3, 7-6.
