afteThe 12th-ranked University of Minnesota Men's Tennis Team was defeated by top-ranked Illinois, 7-0, late Thursday night in Champaign, Ill. The Golden Gophers will next face Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.

Minnesota began doubles with a victory as Chris Wettengel and Aleksey Zharinov upset No. 36 Phil Stolt and Ryler DeHeart, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles. Illinois claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2.

In singles, Illinois' Rajeev Ram, ranked 14th in the nation, defeated Thomas Haug at No. 1, 6-3, 6-3. Minnesota's Manuel Lievano played No. 5 Amer Delic down to the wire, but fell in a super tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), 5-7, (10-2). Avery Ticer also fell in a super tiebreaker to No. 103 Michael Calkins, 7-6 (4), 3-6, (10-2).
