aftPepperdine senior Al Garland, ranked No. 3 nationally in singles, defeated top-ranked Harsh Mankad of Minnesota by a score of 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center, helping the No. 6 Waves defeat the No. 27 Golden Gophers by a final score of 7-0.
The Waves swept all three doubles matches and then captured all six singles matches. Thomas Haug and Chris Wettengel both extended their singles matches to three sets, but both were defeated by 6-3 totals in the final set.
Minnesota (6-4) will remain in California for two more days as it faces TCU tomorrow and USC on Thursday.
