The No. 30-ranked Golden Gopher men's tennis team opened up their home Big Ten season with a 6-1 victory over Michigan State Saturday night at the 98th Street Racquet Club. Minnesota won five singles matches and all three doubles matches.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Harsh Mankad defeated Robert Topalo 7-6, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, sophomore Thomas Haug defeated Ken Kigogo 6-4, 6-2. Junior Tyson Parry won his match at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Francisco Trinidad. At No. 5 singles, senior Martin Michalowski defeated Gordan Topalo 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. Freshman Eric Robertson also won his match at No. 6 singles.

In doubles action, Haug and Michlaowski defeated Mark Findling and Kigogo 8-5 at the No. 1 position. At No. 2 doubles, junior Jorge Duenas and Mankad defeated Trinidad and Ivica Primorac 8-6. And at No. 3 doubles, junior Jon Svensson and Parry defeated Robert Topalo and Jimmy McGuire 8-4.
