Phillip Arndt posted wins in singles and doubles, but Minnesota fell to 22nd-ranked Washington 6-1 in a non-conference match on Sunday at the Baseline Tennis Center.
Arndt won his No. 5 singles match over Tobi Obenhaus in match tiebreaker by a score of 4-6, 7-5, (10-6). He also teamed with Sebastian Gallego for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles over the nation's 50th-ranked pair of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Kyle McMorrow.
Washington bounced back to win the other two doubles point to take a 1-0 lead and then got wins from its top three singles players to clinch the team victory. Nedunchezhiyan, ranked 56th in the country, defeated 77th-ranked Gallego 6-3, 7-6 at No. 1 singles. Washington's McMorrow downed Tobias Wernet 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and Derek Drabble beat Dino Bilankov 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3.
Brad Bator gave the Huskies a 5-0 lead with a win at No. 6 over Brendan Ruddock 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Arndt won his match before Washington finished off the match with a victory from Martin Kildahl at No. 4 singles. Kildahl rallied past Rok Bonin 3-6, 7-6, (10-6).
Minnesota, ranked 46th in the country, fell to 5-5 overall, while Washington is now 13-1. The Gophers are off next weekend and return to action on March 17 with a match at Pepperdine.
