ITA Men's Division I Rankings: Team | Singles | Doubles (March 6)
MINNEAPOLIS – Winners of six-straight duals, the Gopher Men’s Tennis team earned its highest national ranking of the season from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association while three players moved into the top-125 ITA Division I Men’s rankings as well as one doubles team.
No. 29 Minnesota (8-3) ranks fourth among Big Ten schools in the latest rankings with a 27.29 average. No. 2 Ohio State, No. 6 Illinois, and No. 7 Michigan also represent the conference in the top 30.
Stefan Milicevic continues to be the highest ranked Gopher, sliding in at no. 59 with a 10.45 average. Milicevic picked up a pair of victories over the weekend and is now 5-5 in the dual season. Felix Corwin moves into the rankings for the first time this season, ranked no. 88 as of today’s computer rankings with an average of 7.50. He is currently 8-1 in the dual season and 14-4 on the year, including a 6-1 mark since moving to the no. 1 singles position. Matic Spec moved back into the rankings as his 5.60 average ranked him 105. He is currently 7-1 in singles this dual season.
Corwin and Spec also remain the double rankings as the pair ranks 66th with a 9.21 average. After going 1-0 with one unfinished match this weekend, the pair is 6-2 during the dual season and 12-5 overall on the year.
The Gophers will get some much-needed rest during a bye this weekend before hitting the road next week for a weekday match-up with UCF in Orlando on Wednesday, March 14. Opening serve is set for 5 p.m. Minnesota then returns to Big Ten play on Friday, March 23 at Iowa and comes back to Baseline tennis Center for the first time in a month to host Nebraska on Sunday, March 25.
