Minnesota Pulls Out 4-3 Win Over William & Mary

Minnesota’s Chi Pham pulled out a three-set victory at No. 6 singles and the Gophers posted three other straight-set wins to knock off 38th-ranked William & Mary on Sunday in Boise, Idaho.

Pham won an opening set tiebreaker 8-6 before dropping the second set 6-0 and rallying for a 6-3 win in the decisive set. His win clinched Minnesota’s victory that snapped the team’s seven-match losing streak and pushed its record to 2-9 overall. William & Mary fell to 11-5 overall.

Sebastian Gallego posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles and Dino Bilankov was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at No. 4 singles. The duo also combined for Minnesota’s lone doubles win with a 9-7 victory at No. 2.
 
Raoul Schwark delivered Minnesota’s other singles win with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 1. Pierre Dumas won his opening set and battled to a three-set match at No. 5, but lost 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The Gophers open Big Ten play on March 9 by hosting second-ranked Ohio State at the Baseline Tennis Center.
