Raoul Schwark posted two singles victories, but they were among the lone bright spots in the Minnesota men's tennis team's trip to Tucson, Ariz.
On Saturday, Schwark, ranked 46th nationally, rallied from a first set loss to deliver a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against San Diego State. Dino Bilankov won his No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-1 for the Gophers' only victories in a 5-2 loss to the 47th-ranked Aztecs. Minnesota was ranked 54th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings and fell to 1-6 for the season.
Sebastian Gallego went three sets in his No. 3 singles match with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 loss for Minnesota's other top performance.
Schwark had the Gophers' lone victory in Sunday's 6-1 loss to Arizona. He prevailed in an impressive 6-4, 6-3 win over the nation's 37th-ranked player in Arizona's Claudio Christen. Bilankov suffered his first loss in seven dual matches this year, falling in a super tiebreaker at No. 2 singles. He and Derek Peterson also lost in a tiebreaker in their No. 2 doubles contest.
