NoThe 10th-ranked Golden Gopher Men's Tennis Team improved to 7-0 with a 5-2 win vs. No. 52 Virginia on Friday afternoon in Charlottesville, Va. Minnesota will face No. 20 Wake Forest on Saturday and No. 16 Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday.
Against the Cavaliers, Minnesota claimed the doubles point as Manuel Lievano and Clay Estes defeated Rylan Rizza and Stephen Nolen at No. 2 doubles. Lievano and Estes improved to 5-1 on the season. Chris Wettengel and Aleksey Zharinov earned the win at No. 3 by the score of 8-4.
In singles, Thomas Haug and Aleksey Zharinov led the way for Minnesota. Haug won at No. 1 singles over Doug Stewart, 7-6, 4-6, 10-6. Zharinov stopped Chris Gonyer at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4. Manuel Lievano and Clay Estes rounded out the wins for the Golden Gophers. Estes, a junior transfer from Texas Tech improved to 7-0 in the dual meet season.
