Men's Tennis Defeats Wake Forest, 5-2

mThe University of Minnesota men's tennis team defeated Wake Forest by a score of 5-2 on Friday at the Baseline Tennis Center. Minnesota won the doubles point and four of six singles matches. The win moves the No. 31 Golden Gophers' record to 3-1 on the season, and is the third consecutive win for the team.

The Gophers began the meet winning all three spots in the doubles competition. Minnesota then won five of six singles matches. Freshman Andres Osorio beat Wake Forest's Brett Ross by scores of 7-5, 2-6, 5-4. Junior Avery Ticer then defeated Todd Paul 6-4, 4-6, 1-0. Senior Aleksey Zharinov handled Derrick Spice in sets, winning 7-6, 6-3. Fellow seniors Chris Wettengel also won his match over Andrew Hamar, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, along with Clay Estes beating Liron Strauss 6-1, 3-6, 7-6. The Gopher loss came at the hands of Andrew Simpson who defeated freshman Dusan Tabak, 0-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Minnesota men's tennis will compete next on Sunday, February 15 when they take on Virginia at 12 Noon at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus.
