The 32nd-ranked University of Minnesota men's tennis team went 2-0 on the final day of its home opening weekend, defeating Yale 4-3 and Drake 5-2 at the Baseline Tennis Center. For the day, the Golden Gophers (4-1) went 7-5 in singles play and 4-2 in doubles action.

In the 9 a.m. match vs. Yale, Minnesota opened the dual with a 2-1 showing in doubles matches. UM got the doubles point with D.J. Geatz and Sion Wilkins' 8-2 win over Connor Dawson and John Lederman at No. 2, and Andres Osorio and Chi Pham's 8-5 win over Michael Caldwell and Tom Santoro at No. 3.

The Golden Gophers and Bulldogs split the six singles matches with Minnesota picking up wins at Nos. 2, 5 and 6. At No. 5 freshman Dino Bilankov cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Matt Schimmel before Wilkins downed Lederman, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 6. Raoul Schwark, ranked 58th in the nation, clinched the dual for the Maroon and Gold at No. 2 with his 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Caldwell.

In the 1 p.m. match against Drake, Minnesota went 2-1 in doubles with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Schwark and Mikey Kantar opened the dual with an 8-2 triumph over Bokang Setscogo and Sergi Vila at No. 2 before Osorio and Pham improved to 2-0 on the day with their 8-4 win over Halvar Dil and Guiherme Marsiglia at No. 3.

The Golden Gophers cruised to the dual win with a 4-2 record in singles action. At No. 1, 77th-ranked Osorio upended Vila 6-4, 6-3 for his first win on the day. The Bulldogs picked up wins at Nos. 2 and 3, but Minnesota earned victories at Nos. 4, 5 and 6. At No. 4, Kantar posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Marsiglia, Nich Edlefsen prevailed in a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 match against Ivan Mendoza at No. 5, and Bilankov cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Setscogo at No. 6.

The Maroon and Gold heads back on the road next weekend to face Virginia Commonwealth and Wake Forest on Feb. 10-11, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
