Str The 32nd-ranked Golden Gopher men's tennis team upset No. 7 Notre Dame4-3 on Friday night at the 98th Street Racquet Club in Bloomington. Junior Harsh Mankad, ranked second in the nation, clinched the match with his win at No. 1 singles.
Minnesota earned the doubles point as Mankad teamed up with Thomas Haug to upset the nation's sixth-ranked duo, Casey Smith and Javier Taborga, by a score of 9-8 (4). Manuel Lievano and Reven Stephens also posted a victory.
In singles, Aleksey Zharinov, Thomas Haug and Mankad earned wins to seal the victory. Mankad defeated Casey Smith 7-6 (4), 6-4, while Haug and Zharinov also earned straight-set victories.
Minnesota returns to the court Sunday morning against William & Mary at 9 a.m. in Bloomington.
