sThe 40th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks defeated No. 23 Minnesota 4-3 in the championship match of the Ice Volleys Showcase at the Burnsville Racquet Club in Burnsville, Minn.

Minnesota won three of six singles matches, but lost two of three doubles matches to lose the doubles point and come up short 4-3. The Golden Gophers dropped the first three singles matches. Sophomore Jorge Duenas put Minnesota on the board with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Alex Barragan in the No. 4 singles match. Junior Martin Michalowski continued tbe winning ways with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Quentin Blakeney at No. 5. Freshman Thomas Haug also won his singles match 7-5, 6-1 over Rodrigo Echagaray of Kansas.

The doubles team of Michalowski and senior Tom Chicoine won the lone doubles match 8-4 over Luis Uribe and Ed Dus of Kansas at the No. 1 doubles position.

Earlier in the Ice Volleys Showcase, No. 40 South Alabama defeated Western Michigan 5-2.
