MELBOURNE, Australia – The Gopher Men’s Tennis team is spending over a week training in Australia this month. During their stay, members of the team will be writing blog updates to keep fans posted on the team’s activities throughout the trip. Today, sophomore Stefan Milicevic describes another exciting day for the men in Australia.
As usual, we started off with an early morning practice. Everybody was extremely eager to put in some serious work since we missed a day of practice due to persistent rain. After, we got in some of head coach Geoff Young’s hitting exercises in and finished up with some point play. Luckily, the weather stayed dry and we were able finish the session without any rain interruptions despite the bunch of gray, gloomy clouds.
After practice, we went to grab lunch at the mall nearby since we had another practice coming up at noon. What made the second practice special is that we’ve got to meet Horia Tecau and Jean-Julien Rojer, a doubles pair that’s won Wimbledon and the US Open together. The weather turned for the worse and rain stopped practice, but that’s when we got the unique opportunity to chat with them and ask for advice that would help us improve our doubles game. As we left the tennis complex and the rain kept pouring, we decided to go to the recreational center with the pool to do a swimming workout.
After, we went back home to rest and prepare for dinner at the Levin residence. A couple of hours later we were off to Justyn Levin’s house where we had an amazing dinner and fun time bonding. We played chess and watched/talked about tennis. It was another great day for Gopher Men’s Tennis down under. Go Gophs!
