The Minnesota men’s tennis team concluded fall tournament play today at the Lakewood Ranch Clay Court Intercollegiate Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Mathie Froment, Phillip Arndt, Julian Dehn and Brendan Ruddock were the four Gophers playing in Florida and Dehn was the only one to advance to the second day of play in the 32-man singles tournament.
Dehn, who won twice on Friday, beat Gicomo Miccini of Arizona 7-5, 7-6 (5) in the quarterfinals. Dehn’s run came to an end in a three-set match against Vlad Bondarenko of Oklahoma State. Bondarenko prevailed 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.
In doubles Dehn and Froment, advanced to the semifinals before falling to 8-2 to Daniil Proskura and Carlos Taborg of Alabama.
The Gophers will begin their spring season on Jan. 21 against Marquette at Baseline Tennis Center.
Gophers Season Comes to a Close
Minnesota finished its season in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament falling to Purdue, 4-1, this afternoon.
