Weber and Frueh Reach Big Ten Semis
Oct. 25, 2013
The Minnesota men’s tennis team opened play at the Big Ten Singles Tournament in West Lafayette, Ind. Friday with both singles and doubles action. Juniors Eric Frueh and Tucker, sophomore Ruben Weber, and freshman Jeremy Lynn represented the Gophers at the event.
The day was highlighted by Weber and Frueh’s run in doubles play. The duo reached the semifinal round by winning all three of their matches on the day.
Frueh and Weber dispatched their first opponents, Andres Estenssoro and Dominic Patrick of Iowa, 8-2 before downing Purdue’s Mateus Silva and Szymon Tatarczyk 8-3. The tandem finished the day with an 8-6 victory over Michigan’s Alex Buzzi and Barrett Franks.
In singles play, Frueh was the only Minnesota player to win on the day, as he took down Kellen Bates in a play-in round match. All four players lost in the second round.
Following this weekend, the team will welcome Penn, Dartmouth, Princeton, Denver, Western Michigan, and DePaul to the Baseline Tennis Center Oct. 31-Nov. 3 for the Gopher Invitational.
