Leandro Toledo continued to shine for Minnesota today in the fourth day of competition at the Men's ITA Central Regional Championship at the Gophers' home base in Minneapolis.
As the only Gopher player left in the singles tournament, Toledo started the morning in the quarterfinals of the main draw bracket, where he defeated Oklahoma's Axel Alverez to bring him one step closer.
The sophomore followed his morning win with another in the semifinals. This time Toledo overcame No. 7 seed Anis Ghorbel (Drake) by close scores of 7-6(5), 6-4. to earn his spot in tomorrow's final.
Toledo then focused his attention on the afternoon doubles competition where he and his partner Rok Bonin were set to compete in the event semifinals. The pair would end their successful showing with an 8-0 loss to Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alverez (Oklahoma).
The Men's ITA Regional Championship will conclude tomorrow at Baseline Tennis Center. The singles final will take place at 10:00 a.m. CT with the doubles final to follow at noon.
Gophers Season Comes to a Close
Minnesota finished its season in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament falling to Purdue, 4-1, this afternoon.
