NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 37-ranked Gopher Men’s Tennis team earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament's round of 16 since 2000 Saturday with a clean 4-0 sweep of No. 14 Oklahoma. Freshman Jackson Allen grinded out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 three-set victory to clinch the match, tossing his hat in the air in celebration with his teammates.

The Gophers dismantled the Sooners in doubles play with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 spot. Felix Corwin earned the 6-4 win for himself and partner Josip Krstanovic in the No. 1 spot with an ace on match point over the No. 44 ranked pairing of Bakshi and van Emburgh.

Minutes later, junior Marino Alpeza did the same with a flat serve up the middle, earning a 7-5 win in No. 3 doubles with partner Stefan Milicevic to give Minnesota the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Corwin, Matic Spec, Milicevic, and Krstanovic all took their first sets, respectively, to give Minnesota wins in four of six first sets.

No. 53 Corwin continued his hot streak by blowing by No. 30 Alex Bakshi in No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2, followed closely by another straight set victory by Krstanovic in No. 4 singles, a 6-4, 6-2 win over Adrian Oetzbach.

Corwin has earned ranked wins in each of his last three matches, defeating No. 3 Mikael Torpegaard of Ohio State, No. 37 Wayne Montgomery of Georgia, and Bakshi of Oklahoma.

Both Allen and Alpeza fell in their first sets early, but both fought back to earn a third and final set. Allen earned his second clinching win of the season, following his win in the No. 5 spot earlier this season against Wisconsin.

Alpeza, Milicevic, and Spec all were in the third set upon clinch.

"It's hard to put into words the level of pride and happiness I have for this team and especially our two seniors who have done everything right during their entire time here," said head coach Geoff Young. "The bottom of the line-up was the difference this weekend, playing their best tennis of the year. I'm really looking forward to another week of tennis with this group of guys."
