MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gopher Men’s Tennis team made it two-straight sweeps and three-straight victories as No. 35 Minnesota defeated Northwestern 7-0 in the penultimate match-up of the Big Ten Conference season on Friday afternoon at the outdoor courts at Combe Tennis Center.

Once again, the Gophers held set point in each of the doubles matches when Minnesota (14-6) claimed the point, with Marino Alpeza and Stefan Milicevic winning handily, 6-2 at #3 doubles, while Matic Spec and Eli Ogilvy won 6-4 at #2 against Northwestern (9-15).

Josip Krstanovic continued his stretch of strong play as he claimed the first point of the day for Minnesota, 6-1, 6-2 over Antonioni Fasano at #4 singles.  On the subject of streaks, no. 89 Matic Spec made it eight in a row as he claimed #2 singles, 6-0, 6-3. No. 85 Stefan Milicevic won his seventh straight at the #3 spot, 7-5, 6-0 to clinch the victory for the Gophers. Both Spec and Milicevic have won 9-of-10 decisions.

No. 95 Felix Corwin picked up a ranked victory for Minnesota at the #1 spot, defeating no. 122 Dominik Stary, 6-4, 7-5. He is 7-2 in the Gophers’ last 10 outings. Marino Alpeza was a late addition to the line-up after a scratch and came up big with a 6-2, 6-4 win to give the team a 5-0 lead. Jackson Allen needed a third-set tiebreaker but helped the Gophers claim the sweep, defeating Jason Seidman 5-7, 7-6 (8), and 10-5 in the breaker for his third-straight win.
