EVANSTON, Ill. – The 51st-ranked Minnesota men’s tennis team concluded its regular season Sunday afternoon by dropping a 7-0 match to No. 35 at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center Evanston, Ill. The Gophers end the regular season with an 11-12 record that includes a 5-6 finish in Big Ten play.

The Gophers finished in seventh place in the conference and will open next week’s Big Ten Tournament in East Lansing, Mich. against 10th-seeded Indiana. The Gophers beat the No. 59-ranked Hoosiers in Bloomington, Ind., 4-3, in a March 30 match.

Sunday, NU took a quick advantage in doubles with an 8-4 win at No. 3, but Leandro Toledo and Eric Frueh evened the competition with an 8-6 win at the second spot.

The Wildcats took the 1-0 lead when No. 33 Raleigh Smith and Mihir Kumar end a 13-match winning streak for No. 20 Jack Hamburg and Mathieu Froment at No. 1 with an 8-5 win.

No. 112 Sam Shropshire doubled NU’s cushion with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ruben Weber in the second spot. The Wildcats sealed the victory with wins at No. 6 and No. 5 singles.

To complete the shutout, Konrad Zieba downed Jack Hamburg at No. 3, Mihir Kumar ended a four-match Mathieu Froment win steak with an three-set win at No. 4, and No. 58 Raleigh Smith eked out a 7-6 (0), 0-6, 7-6 (4) win against

No. 39 Leandro Toledo in the top flight.
