“Any time you get to host a meet like this where you’re bringing in some of the best swimmers in the world with people like Missy Franklin and Ryan Lochte being here, having the chance to watch them compete against all the athletes is obviously an exciting thing,” head swimming and diving coach Kelly Kremer said. “I think it’s exciting for the swimming and diving community of Minneapolis and St. Paul to have the opportunity to come to our facility and watch that level of swimming.”
Along with Missy Franklin and Ryan Lochte, Claire Donahue, Conor Dwyer and Ricky Berens, as well as a number of other Olympians, are said to be competing in the Grand Prix series this weekend.
As for the Gophers, the entire team will get a chance to match up and compete against the nation’s top swimmers.
“I think you’re going to see a number of our student athletes shine,” Kremer said. “You’ll see a number of our athletes in the championship finals throughout the meet. Even those who don’t make a championship final, we’ll see a lot of people, and even most of our team, do season-best performances and have an opportunity to really swim fast.”
