University of Minnesota sophomore Turner Eckstrom was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week following a strong showing in the men's swimming and diving season-opener at Wisconsin last weekend, the league office announced Tuesday.
The honor is the first for Eckstrom this season and first for the sophomore in his career as a Gopher.
Eckstrom posted first-place finishes in both 1 meter and 3 meter diving against the Badgers and tallied NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks with scores of 334.35 and 357.60, respectively, in his first action of the 2011-12 season.
The Gopher men are back in action Friday, Nov. 4, when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa, for a Big Ten dual meet vs. Iowa.
