Minnesota swimmers and divers hit the road for the first time this season as they head south to compete against the University of Wisconsin. Both men's and women's teams will face off in a border battle dual meet to add another Big Ten Conference win onto their year's records. The meet action will be divided up over the weekend into two days, starting Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday Oct. 19, at 11:00 a.m. CT.

The Golden Gopher men's team are coming off the first loss of the season after the University of Florida defeated Minnesota 172-124. The dual put Minnesota at a record of 1-1 in the season with both competitions being non-conference. The Gophers will look to get back on the winning train as they head into Big Ten Conference play.

The University of Wisconsin Badgers are set to host their first and only home dual competition of the year after losing 361-275 to the University of Georgia. Freshman Brett Pinfold had stand-out performances in the season opener however when he had six top-three finishes in his Badgers debut. He won his first Freshman of the Week Big Ten Conference honor on Oct. 8.

Despite the Florida loss, many Gophers athletes had strong accomplished performances against the Gators. Co-Captain Derek Toomey captured a first-place win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.07.

Kyler Van Swol also was a stand-out swimmer for Minnesota when he took first in the 100 butterfly event. Diver Dylan Zoe earned individual honors when he won the three-meter dive with a score of 340.58 and contributed his first event win of the season.

Minnesota relays were phenomenal in the Florida dual as the 400 medley team and 400 freestyle team both had first-place finishes.

Historically the Gophers have a 55-41 advantage over the Wisconsin Badgers dating back to the very first meeting in 1922. In the last 11 years alone the Minnesota men have been undefeated against Wisconsin with the last win being in the 2012-13 season when the Gophers won 191-100 over the Badgers.
