#8 4-time B1G Freshman of the Week

Sept. 2, 2014

The Big Ten conference recognizes student-athletes with outstanding performances with several weekly awards, including B1G Freshman of the Week. Colorado native Daryl Turner was selected four times during his premiere season with the Golden Gophers - taking the number 8 spot of our Top Ten Moments from the 2013-14 Season.

His first Freshman of the Week honor came after the Gophers win over the Badgers. Again, Turner had 4 first place finishes along with two second place races as well.

Turner's third selection for B1G Freshman of the Week came in wake of another B1G Conference "W" against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The fourth honor for the freshman was the result of a Golden Gopher win over the University of Hawaii in January. Turner took first in both the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.54 and an impressive 100-yard freestyle finish with a 44.91 over All-American senior captain Derek Toomey.

In addition to his Freshman of the Week honors, Daryl Turner was selected as Swimmer of the Week after the first meet of the season against Arizona State. Turner took home the gold in each of the four races he competed in. Including the 100 back, 100 free, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.

Turner proves to be a strong performer in Minnesota's sprint relays, as well as the 100 back and 100 free.

The only question is, how many times will Daryl Turner be selected for B1G Swimmer of the Week in his remaining three seasons with Minnesota?
