After the first round of preliminaries at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in Seattle, Wash., the Gopher's 200-yard freestyle relay team advanced to Thursday's B finals.
The 200 freestyle relay team, made up of Zach Bolin, Hrvoje Capan, Ben Griggs and Derek Toomey, placed in 15th in the preliminary round with a time of 1:18.77. The squad will compete in the B Final tonight at 9:00 p.m. CT.
Toomey also competed in the 50 freestyle preliminaries, finishing in 31st place with a time of 19.87. Griggs came in 57th place, touching the wall in 20.27, while Bolin finished at 20.31 to put him in 61st.
Freshman CJ Smith made his first NCAA Championships appearance in the 500 freestyle prelims, finishing in 36th place with a time of 4:24.05.
Mikey Ross led the Gophers in diving, finishing 23rd in the 1 meter diving preliminaries with a mark of 280.80, while Kristoffer Jorgensen came in 25th with score of 271.85.
