The University of Minnesota men’s and women’s diving team competed in the first day of the three-day NCAA Zone C Championships, at the University Aquatic Center. The top three men in the 1-meter event and the top four women in the 3-meter automatically advance to the NCAA Championships next weekend in College Station, Texas.
Andrew Brown led the Gopher men in the 1-meter event when he finished 10th overall. In six dives, Brown collected a score of 304.40 during the prelim and quarterfinal round. In championship round, Brown followed with a score of 617.60. Cole Young held a 14th-place finish of 576.75 and improved two spots from his 16th-place prelim score of 287.95. Tyler Jepsen also competed in the event and finished 29th overall with a score of 230.05. On the women’s side, Taylor Enerson held a prelim/quarterfinal score of 217.15 on the 3-meter and finished 30th overall.
“The guys did a nice solid job on the 1-meter,” head diving coach Jason Baumann said. “Both stayed pretty consistent throughout the day and our 1-meter is not best event so we’re looking forward to the next two days and building from today’s scores. Taylor had a good day, although the three-meter is not her best event. She did some really good things and hopefully it sets her up well for tomorrow’s 1-meter and her best event is to come on Sunday with the platform.”
