The Big Ten Conference has announced that Daryl Turner is the Freshman of the Week as of Tuesday, January 14. The Gophers have been working hard during their annual training trip to Hawaii, and Turner's efforts once again paid off during the dual meet against the University of Hawaii this past Saturday, January 11. Both the Minnesota men's and women's team beat Hawaii, and both won 13 out of 14 events.
Daryl Turner took first in both the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.54 and an impressive 100-yard freestyle finish with a 44.91 over All-American senior captain, Derek Toomey who snagged second with a 45.32. Toomey also won the 50-yard freestyle with a 20.32.
Turner was last awarded the Freshman of the Week honor the week of December 10. With his debut season with the Gophers, Turner now has four Freshman of the Week titles under his belt going into the last dual meet for the 2013-14 season.
The Men's swim and dive take on North Carolina State next on both January 24th at 6:00pm and January 25th at 10:00am at the University Aquatic Center. Note that Friday January 24th is the annual "Pack the Pool" event, make sure to join us for a fun home meet featuring free admission, Goldy, face-painting and a free t-shirt to the first 100 fans!
