Hello again from Hawaii!

Since my last posting, we've continued to train hard and have lots of adventures in the Aloha State. After the weekend, we started our normal training trip schedule, and Kelly's middle distance/distance group began training at the facilities at the University of Hawaii. We've been blessed with incredible weather here so far, and a startling power outage at UH at the end of practice on Tuesday night is the only thing that has complicated our successful training. Kelly's group has completed some challenging aerobic sets, including a combined distance practice with the Purdue men, and has done some good quality work as well, most notably a set of 21 x 50s at goal 200 pace on descending intervals. Purdy's middle distance/stroke group has done Fishburn, quality and power work with parachutes, a fast 400 IM set, and the infamous Anton 100s set. The male sprinters combined with the middle distance and distance men for the annual Bank Set on Wednesday morning, have been able to, in the words of Coach Steve Miller, show off their "athleticism" with running dives from the side of the pool, and have been putting in lots of work in the weight room. The female sprint group has continued to do lots of kicking, along with power work and underwaters, aerobic sets (hitting 8,000 total yards multiple times this week), and a stand up set of 8 x 175s.

In our time in between practices and on days with single practices, people have been soaking up the sun and exploring Oahu. Many groups have gone hiking at beautiful locations like Olomana Ridge, have gone to new beaches, such as Lanikai Beach, which is ranked as one of the best beaches in the world, and have visited (and in some cases taken a dip in) various waterfalls. On Saturday night, we had a combined team meal at the Marriott Resort in Waikiki, and it was a lot of fun to get dressed up and have a great dinner all together. Everyone is looking forward to kicking off our 2014 competition season with a meet against Hawaii on Saturday, as well as a day off and a trip to North Shore planned for Sunday. All in all, it has continued to be an awesome trip, and we are having a great time in and out of the water!

Until next time, Kiera
