Following the preliminary round of day two at the Big Ten Championships, the No. 14 Gophers will send three men to the finals tonight including one in the championship heat and two in the consolation heat.
In the 500 Freestyle, CJ Smith and Logan Redondo will represent the Gophers in the consolation final. Smith will be seeded 14th after his time of 4:20.49 while Redondo will swim in the 15th seed after a time of 4:21.44.
Derek Toomey earned the first-place seed in the championship final of the 50 freestyle, notching a NCAA “A” qualifying time of 19.25. The time was also the junior’s career-best and broke the pool record at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center at the University of Indiana.
Thursday night’s finals will take place at 5:30 (CT) with the order of events as followed: 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 1 meter diving and 400 medley relay.
