2012-13 Sophomore Season: Posted a second-place finish in the 1,000 free and also competed in the 500 free and was a member of the 400 free relay at Michigan (10/5).
2011-12 Freshman Season: Made his debut as a freshman at the NCAA Championships earned All-American Honors in the 1,650 free by placing 13th with a career-best time of 14:52.73 finished 36th in the 500 free placed fourth in the 1,650 free at the Big Ten Championships (15:02.57) earned a top time in the 500 free prelim (4:22.09) while placing 14th overall finished 56th in the 200 free with a career-best 1:40.73 won the 1,000 free at the Triple Duals with a top time of 9:10.25 won the 500 and 1,000 free against Missouri won the 500 and 1,650 free at the Hawaii Dual letterwinner.
High School: A 2011 graduate of New Trier HS high school coach was Mark Onstott high school team placed first at state placed 2nd in the 500 freestyle in both his junior and senior years competed in the 200 freestyle as a junior and senior was the conference champion in the 500 freestyle (2010 & 2011) and 200 freestyle (2011) named the Most Improved Swimmer on his high school team placed 10th at Junior Nationals in the 400 freestyle named three-time Swimmer of the Year for his club team Academic All-American honor roll.
Personal: Major is undecided son of Chris and Kaci Smith has one brother, Grant most memorable sports thrill was when he made Olympic trials cuts in the summer of 2011 in the 400m and 1500m freestyle.
