2011-12 • Freshman Season: Established top times at the Minnesota Challenge • placed fifth in the 200 back (1:53.29) • placed eighth in the 100 back (51.52) • finished 26th in the 50 free (21.99) • also member of the third place 200 medley relay • came in seventh in the 100 back against Hawaii.
High School: A 2011 graduate of Mounds View High School • coached by Stephen Brauer and Chris Yauch • also swam for the North Suburban Aquatic Club • 2011 Minnesota Class 2A state champion in the 100 back with a school-record and All-American time of 50.20 • also 2011 runner-up in the 100 free (46.33) • third in the 100 back as a junior • seven-time all-state swimmer • NISCA All-American in 2010 and 2011 • All-Suburban East Conference honoree all four years of high school • earned Section 4AA Swimmer of the Meet honors both his junior and senior years • set four school records • junior nationals qualifier • part of USA Swimming's Scholastic All-America team • Minnesota State High School League Triple A Award finalist • also an all-state band member and a letterwinner in academics and theatre.
Personal: Born November 11, 1992 • undecided on a major • son of Mike and Amy Rafter • has an older brother, Jake • mother competed in crew for the Gophers • father swam at St. Thomas • high school coach, Stephen Brauer, swam at Minnesota • swimming on fast teams in competitive relays is one of his favorite sports thrills • works at a musical theatre camp in the summer.
