Minnesota Duluth Notables
Minnesota is 132-74-16 all-time against Minnesota Duluth including a 73-31-10 mark against the Bulldogs on home ice. In the last 10 meetings, Minnesota is 5-2-3 while the Gophers have a four-game unbeaten streak (2-0-2) against Minnesota Duluth with the team’s last loss to the Bulldogs at Mariucci Arena occuring on Nov. 21, 2009 in a 3-2 loss. Senior Nate Condon leads all active Gophers with nine points (five goals, four assists) in eight career games against this weekend’s opponent.
Continuing the Homestand
This weekend’s series is part of a six-game, three-week homestand for the Gophers at Mariucci Arena. The Gophers swept Minnesota State (4-1, 3-0) last weekend to open the stretch with Minnesota opening up Big Ten Conference play in two weeks against Wisconsin (Nov. 29-30). The Gophers then finish up the first half of the season on the road with a conference series against Michigan State in East Lansing (Dec. 6-7).
Shibrowski Stands Tall
Senior Michael Shibrowski earned the starting nod in goal for last Saturday’s 3-0 win over the Mavericks. The netminder matched his career high with 25 saves in the win. The start was Shibrowski’s first in over a year (10/19/12 in a 5-3 loss to Michigan Tech) and came one day after his 23rd birthday. Shibrowski earned the Big Ten Second Star of the Week for the performance as the Gophers have now earned at least one conference weekly honor in each of the five weeks of action the team has seen this season.
Sam Warning has tallied a point in all 10 games for the Gophers this season and his 10-game point streak is a career-long...Hudson Fasching had his eight-game point streak come to an end last Friday but responded with a goal and an assist on Saturday...Tom Serratore snapped a 17-game goal drought on Saturday, dating back to last year’s series against Minnesota Duluth (2/23/13).
Reilly Brothers Connect
Mike and Connor Reilly both scored goals in last Friday’s 4-1 win over Minnesota State, becoming the first brothers to score goals for the Gophers in the same game since Ryan and Grant Potulny on March 13, 2004 in a 7-3 Gophers’ win in the WCHA First Round Playoffs. Mike Reilly also assisted on Connor Reilly’s goal, marking the first time the Reilly family (along with brother Ryan Reilly) has factored into the same goal in the trio’s two years with the program.
No Place Like Home
The 2013-14 season marks the 20th campaign in which the Gophers have called Mariucci Arena home. The facility was officially opened on Aug. 21, 1993 with an alumni game. Since opening Mariucci Arena, the Gophers are 282-112-43 at their home rink. Recently, Minnesota went 14-3-3 at Mariucci Arena in 2012-13 while the team is 38-9-4 on home ice since the start of the 2011-12 season. The Gophers are 5-0-1 at home this year.
Junior Sam Warning ranks first in the Big Ten in points with 17, assists with 12 and is tied for the league’s lead in plus/minus with teammate Hudson Fasching at +15. The forward is tied for fifth in scoring among all NCAA skaters and leads all Division I players in assists per game at 1.20.
Wilcox Against the Best
In 48 career games played, Adam Wilcox has posted a 32-9-6 overall record. Out of those games, 23 have been played against nationally ranked opponents with the sophomore netminder recording an 13-7-3 record against ranked teams with No. 19 Minnesota Duluth coming to Mariucci Arena this weekend.
