MINNEAPOLIS – Three weeks into the 2013-13 Gopher men’s hockey season and three Big Ten weekly accolades for Minnesota junior forward Sam Warning.
The Chesterfield, Mo., native was named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week on Tuesday after tallying three assists against No. 5 Boston College over the weekend. The junior tallied an assist in Friday’s 3-3 overtime tie with the Eagles and added two more helpers during Sunday’s 6-1 win.
Warning, who has tallied a point in all six games this season, is tied for first in the NCAA scoring race with 12 points (five goals, seven assists) this year and ranks first in the nation in plus/minus at +11.
The weekly accolade marks Warning’s third-consecutive Big Ten award to open the season. The junior picked up Big Ten Second Star honors on Oct. 15 and added First Star honors on Oct. 22.
Minnesota is off this weekend before returning to action next weekend at Notre Dame.
