The University of Minnesota men's hockey program will honor past, present and future members of the U.S. Armed Forces on Friday, Oct. 26 with Military Appreciation Night. The Gophers have partnered with Defending The Blue Line to make the Gophers' exhibition game with the U.S. Under-18 team a memorable event for members of the military and their families.
"This is a great opportunity for us to show our appreciation for the many sacrifices made by members of the military and their families, and we are proud to have partnered with Defending The Blue Line to put this event on," Minnesota head coach Don Lucia said. "We look forward to having a great crowd for the game. It will be a great game and a fun night for everyone involved."
Leading up to the game, season ticket holders can donate their tickets to the exhibition to Defending The Blue Line families by mailing their tickets directly to Defending The Blue Line - Gopher Tickets, 1206 N. Frontage Rd., Suite B, Hastings, MN 55033 or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org. For those who are unable to attend the game, Gophersports.com will stream the exhibition contest live.
Minnesota will also host an in-game auction and sell autographed pucks throughout the night with all proceeds going towards Defending The Blue Line. Other promotions for the event include competitions for select members of the military during both intermissions, autograph sessions with Hobey Baker Award winners Brian Bonin and Robb Stauber, an equipment drive in the main lobby of Mariucci arena and photos on the ice following the game for all military members in uniform.
Military appreciation will continue all weekend at Mariucci Arena as the University of Minnesota and Defending The Blue Line will also host a charity game on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. featuring numerous professional hockey players and Minnesota alumni. Among those slated to appear are Blake Wheeler, Paul Martin, Kyle Okposo, Erik Johnson, Keith Ballard, Cal Clutterbuck, Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. Tickets for the charity game can be purchased at MyGopherSports.com or by calling 1-800-U-Gopher.
