#4 Warning Nets Hat Trick on HDM
Say hello to Sam Warning as the forward checks in at No. 4 on our Gophers Top Plays Countdown!
The Chesterfield, Mo., native had a breakout junior season in 2013-14 with 34 points (14 goals, 20 assists) while his game against Ohio State on Jan. 18 stands as one of the top individual performances from last season.
A night after topping the Buckeyes 1-0 at TCF Bank Stadium in the Hockey City Classic, Minnesota opened the series finale with a bit of a letdown in the form of two early goals from the road squad. But Warning and the Gophers wouldn’t go quietly. The forward rattled off three-straight goals to put the Maroon & Gold on top in route to an eventual 4-2 win over Ohio State. The feat from Warning marked the first-ever natural hat trick in Big Ten Conference history and Minnesota’s first since Jay Barriball in a 5-4 Minnesota win over UMass on Oct. 9, 2010.
The win also moved Minnesota to 5-2-1 all-time on Hockey Day Minnesota and extended the team’s unbeaten streak as part of the event to four games.
