#5 'U' Wins North Star College Cup
The 2013-14 Gopher Hockey season featured plenty of memorable moments, and hockey fans in Minnesota certainly won’t forget January 25, 2014 when the Gophers defeated Minnesota Duluth in a shootout to claim the inaugural North Star College Cup.
After battling past St. Cloud State with a 4-1 win in the semifinals, Minnesota’s Adam Wilcox made a career high 38 saves for the second night in a row as the Gophers and Bulldogs combined for eight goals in regulation.
After overtime ended without a winner, the game headed to a shootout with Kyle Rau and Seth Ambroz finding the back of the net and Adam Wilcox turning away two attempts as the Gophers locked in state bragging rights at the first-ever North Star College Cup.
Guentzel to Recieve Terry Flanagan Award in Naples
A native of Marble, Minn., Guentzel played for Minnesota from 1981-85 and served as an assistant coach with the program from 1994-2008. He returned as associate head coach in 2011.
`U' Names Captains for 2017-18
All-American Tyler Sheehy will serve as team captain for the Gopher Hockey program in 2017-18 while Leon Bristedt, Mike Szmatula and Ryan Lindgren will serve as alternate captains.
Reedy, Knoepke Win Gold with USA Hockey
The U.S. topped Finland 4-2 on Sunday in the gold-medal game and has as now captured 14 consecutive medals including gold medals in seven of the last nine years.
