Mariucci Arena, Minneapolis, Minn.Minnesota Head Coach Don LuciaOn Alaska-Anchorage’s shot-blocking:“We (told) the guys, They’re going to block shots. We had some good looks and we thought, Stay with it, one might bounce off them and go in. But I think what bothers me the most is just making the big mistake in the third period that ultimately cost us. But at the same time, the last three times we played them our forwards had one penalty shot goal. You have to score goals.”
On the game:“I felt we looked through two periods a little bit fresher. And I felt, If we get through tonight, we’ll be in good shape for tomorrow. I felt it could be 0-0 heading into overtime. But we got a little bit too antsy and it cost us.”
On the way Alaska-Anchorage played:“They played like you should on the road. They played to their strengths, and they did a good job. They kind of were in a 1-1-3 and kept deflecting us to the outside, and we had a hard time penetrating and getting into the slot area, and if we did anything around the goal the goaltender was able to make the save. It’s extremely disappointing.”
Jay Barriball (Sr.)On his the end of his college career:“I’ve been through some ups and downs. I didn’t think it was going to end this way. But sports are like that sometimes, I guess. It’s a tough one to swallow.”
On why this series was so different from the way the Gophers ended the regular season:“I have no idea. We were playing real good up until last night. We just couldn’t get the job done. We just stopped playing to our strengths and just gave them too many opportunities and they capitalized on our mistakes. Obviously, we didn’t get any offense going.”
