MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – The No. 11/9 Gopher Hockey program settled for a conference split with No. 10/11 Ohio State on Saturday night, dropping an 8-3 contest and snapping a seven-game winning streak against the Buckeyes.
Minnesota (7-5-2 overall, 1-1-0-0 Big Ten) rallied from an early two-goal deficit in the first, however the visitors rattled off six unanswered goals to pick up the split before the Gophers scored late in the third.
Sophomore forward Tyler Sheehy continued to be a bright spot for the Gophers in an otherwise dreary night. With two goals and an assist in the loss, the sophomore now leads Minnesota with nine goals and 20 points on the season while he is tied for the team lead with 11 assists.
The forward continued to lead the Maroon & Gold against the Buckeyes with 15 points (nine goals, four assists) in seven career games.
Ryan Lindgren also scored for the Maroon & Gold, temporarily bringing the game back to even with his first career goal. He later added an assist for his first career multi-point game. Rem Pitlick added his fourth assist of the weekend while Jack Glover and Taylor Cammarata also earned assists in the loss.
Eric Schierhorn took the loss for the Gophers, making 12 saves, while Nick Lehr made six saves in a brief relief appearance.
The Gophers outshot Ohio State 34-26 in the series finale.
Minnesota closes out the first half of the season next weekend with a conference road trip to Michigan State. Tickets for the 2016-17 season are available at MyGopherSports.com or by calling 1-800-U-Gopher.
